In the Woods....with my first new home purchase
I couldnt resist this red Jimmy Possum chair. I originally purchased it for our "waiting room" but in hindsight it is too big. It will sit in our bedroom now. I really have to restrain myself from buying anything else before we move in!

Into the woods...with upgrades
Upgrading is never ending. When do you stop? How do you stop. For us it was getting ridiculous.
We had to reassess the upgrades and ensure our overall objectives were met.
So what were our priorities?
We had to reassess the upgrades and ensure our overall objectives were met.
So what were our priorities?
- Large Alfresco so we can host our family functions.
- All brick construction
- A "wow" factor on ground floor especially bathroom, entrance, staircase and kitchen
- Finally we had to be careful not to over capitalise . We wanted to ensure that if we were forced to sell tomorrow we would get our land cost plus build cost back. For us we needed to ensure total cost did not exceed $1.25m. This is the current market price for a 4/5 bedroom family home. We purchased our land in the inner west of Sydney in 2008 for $715k and KDR is costing us about $500k
- Resale, resale, resale - we wanted to appeal to the family market and use neutral tones should we decide to sell in the near future
Into the wood.....with a new site supervisor
I received an email from our site supervisor saying the no name building company was going in a different direction and effective immediately he has ceased employment with them. WTF????
I panicked..my worst fear is that the no name building company goes into Voluntary Administration. I only realised recently that the builders insurance only covers 20% of costs if this happens.....
So I called the no name building company first thing the next day and asked them what was going on. They were very surprised I even knew about the change given it had happened very late the previous day. It sounds like the termination was performance related......Luckily it wasnt my worst fear that they had gone into voluntary administration
The GM there advised a new SS would be starting in a few days. I think his name is Shane. Hopefully he can sort out the whereabouts of these bricks!

into the woods.....without bricks!
We are going into the woods with without bricks this week. Yep. The SS from the No Name Building company called to say Austral is out of Expressions Blackstone Brick and there will be a two week wait. We did consider choosing other bricks....But quite frankly dont want to give the No Name Building company another cent if we can help it! Besides we were really happy with our choice. I dont know how it can happen really?
So here we sit until the 13 September waiting, waiting, waiting.........

Into the woods...with frames
Frames erection commenced around 22 August and as of yesterday they are complete. Pretty amazing how quickly they were erected. We are getting a building consultant to check each stage.
Ground floor
Window and door delivery
Front of house
Front of house - other side
Rear of house - we are having a 28sqm undercover Alfresco, plus a wooden decking to the left of the slab
Into the woods...with piers, waffle and slab
Building works commenced with the No Name Building company demolition 1 week of June.
We then waited and waited and waited. Two months went by before there was any action. Try explaining that to a three year old little boy. All he wants to see is Bob the Builder come to do his thing!!!
Finally some movement in the woods. Piering was done on the 4 August, Waffle on the 8 August and finally the slab on the 9 August. Three months since DA approval and at last some serious action in the woods............
Here are some pics
The digger came and covered plumbing/ electricals
